How To

How to take pictures in low lighting conditions

Low-light Photography is when you take photos in dimly lit or dark environments. It requires special equipment. The main challenges are controlling exposure, white-balance, and sharpness. Low light photography can be divided into two categories: ambient and flash. Flash photography works well when you have enough light. You will need a flash if you don't have enough natural light. Without a flash, it is possible to get a poor picture if the subject is indoors and not outdoors. Try shooting at night, during the moonlit hours, if you don't need a flash. This will allow you to get nice shadows and colors. Another option is to shoot during twilight. Twilight happens when the sun has set but there is still daylight.

You may also want to experiment with long exposures. Long exposures can be used to capture images even if the shutter has been closed for several minutes. When the shutter remains closed, the camera records only light that falls on the sensor. The light that falls onto the sensor during a long exposure continues to be recorded. The shutter is still closed so no light can enter the lens. Therefore, there is very little movement. To ensure clear images, disable any autofocus and exposure settings. Also, make sure that you adjust the ISO setting before you start shooting. A 200 ISO setting gives you greater control over how dark or bright your image looks. When you're ready for the shot, press quickly the shutter button. This causes the shutter to close completely. Then, you should hold the shutter button until the last possible second. The shutter button should be held down to prevent more light from entering the camera. Once you have taken your picture, wait for a few moments before you release that shutter button. This allows your camera to process the picture. You can view your photos while you wait on the camera. Once you're satisfied with them, save them to your computer.
